Employee development at Drees & Sommer follows the guiding principle Keep on learning.
This includes the Drees & Sommer Academy, which operates on the by us, for us principle, that is, it is predominantly run by employees for employees. Internal and external instructors run Basic, Professional, and Special courses to teach specific Drees & Sommer approaches, methods and tools, as well as key soft skills. The entire Academy uses a modern blended learning approach, combining classroom sessions and e-learning.
Basic: basic information about the company, and specific training on topics such as discussion techniques and consulting skills.
Professional: e-learning platform with content for more in-depth self-study
Special courses: expert topics such as Lean Construction Management or the internationally recognized Project Management Professional (PMP©) certificate.
There are also numerous courses tailored to emerging market requirements. As part of our management development program, we also have specific courses for employees taking on management roles, systematically preparing them for their new responsibilities.
Our employees communicate regularly with their line managers, and, once a year, they have a performance review. This provides an opportunity to reflect with your manager on the past year, plan upcoming projects, and to identify upcoming challenges and development opportunities in the year ahead. It is also an opportunity to discuss long-term goals.
We want new employees to feel integrated from the word go. That is why we provide a range of support for new employees, tailored to their personal experience.
When you join us, in addition to your line manager you will have a personal mentor assigned to support you. They are there to help you with any questions you may have. We also offer an onboarding consultation to professionals with more than four years’ experience. Professionals can also reflect and develop strategies with a neutral party during their first weeks. Then, after 100 days, they discuss their impressions with their line manager and are provided with initial feedback. At the end of the probationary period, the manager and the new employee discuss experiences so far and define goals for their work together in the future.

Project manager, project engineer or consultant
As a project manager, project engineer or consultant, you support the Project Partners with project execution. You undertake subtasks independently. You supplement the specialist knowledge you bring to the company by attending the Drees & Sommer Academy, as well as through on-the-job training and continuing education units.
As a project partner, you manage projects independently. You understand projects as a whole, but also have a keen eye for detail. You perform a management role and are responsible for achieving project objectives with regard to quality, schedule and cost, and finding creative solutions to complex problems. You maintain close contact to the client’s representatives and keep them continually informed of project status.
Senior Project Partner
Your broad experience and/or expertise allows you to independently manage difficult projects or undertake complex subtasks of major projects. You also contribute to company continuing education, for example by giving internal workshops at the Drees & Sommer Academy.
As an Associate Partner you are associated with a specific industry, act as a key account manager for important clients, and drive the development of Drees & Sommer in certain regions. Your responsibilities also include the acquisition of new clients and projects, and the leadership of employees or management of a regional or national office. You develop new areas and services, thus bringing your entrepreneurial skills to the Drees & Sommer Group.
You assume overall responsibility for the future of the company and share financially in its success and the risks. The Partners’ main roles are strategy planning, the development of business models, market cultivation and acquisitions, and key account management at the top level. As a Partner, you define the culture and identity of Drees & Sommer and act as a role model. You inspire employees and chart the chosen path and strategy for the future.

We either have our own international offices on site, or we accompany clients abroad for their projects.

Our international offices are usually managed jointly by a German and a local Managing Director, while the employees are mostly local nationals. They are supported by experienced experts from all our locations. This means that we can provide resources and specific know-how for a project at any time. Personal lives and professional commitments
Work is important to you, but there’s more to life, right? That is exactly the way we see it, too. We support our employees in striking the right balance between their personal lives and their professional commitments. We have a range of offerings to suit different phases of life and individual aspirations. Career and family, flexible working, remuneration and fringe benefits, as well as sports and health, play a special role for our employees. We offer parental and family care time as well as individual and flexible part-time models. Working hours are based on trust rather than rigid compulsory hours. If the activity permits, we allow employees – with the agreement of their line manager – to do some of their work from home.
